PROTECTING PLACES THAT INSPIRE

WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS

Under our Protecting Places That Inspire pillar, we have set 27 measurable targets that span the next 15 years. The roadmap below outlines the key milestones that will guide our journey towards a lower-carbon, more resource-efficient and nature-positive future.

CARBON & ENERGY

Climate change affects every part of our business. Reducing carbon is about protecting the places we operate, strengthening resilience and building a more sustainable future. In 2025, we strengthened our approach to carbon management by re-establishing a robust carbon baseline to track progress and support future target-setting. We’ve also cut direct fuel emissions by 90% compared to 2022, achieved zero market-based Scope 2 emissions through the use of 100% renewable electricity, and completed the rollout of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) across our managed estate, improving visibility of energy use and opportunities for reduction.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Deliver a decarbonisation roadmap to guide our pathway to Net Zero and progress science-aligned targets.
  • Continue improving data quality and reporting, especially in our leased estate.
  • Work with suppliers to reduce emissions across food, drink and packaging.

WATER

Water is central to our business – from brewing our beers to operating our pubs. As pressure on water supplies grows across the South West, improving efficiency and reducing waste is increasingly important. In the last year, we’ve continued to improve water efficiency by reducing water waste at our breweries through enhancements to our reverse osmosis systems and more efficient cleaning processes. We also introduced water-saving measures in pub refurbishments, including waterless urinals capable of saving up to 100,000 litres of water per pub each year, helping to reduce demand on local water resources.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Strengthen ownership and governance of water across the business.
  • Improve monitoring systems to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for reduction.
  • Share best practice across breweries, pubs and refurbishment projects.
  • Continue working with partners and industry peers to support long-term water resilience.

PACKAGING & WASTE

Brewing beer and running pubs naturally creates waste, from food and packaging to materials used across our sites. Reducing waste helps lower emissions, conserve resources and protect the places we operate in. Over the past year, we’ve made significant progress in reducing waste by rolling out Operation Segregation across the business, helping teams recycle more effectively and reduce contamination. As a result, recycling rates doubled, general waste fell by up to 40%, and total waste was reduced by 49% compared to 2023. We also completed our first food waste audit, providing valuable insight into future reduction opportunities, and were recognised nationally with the Excellence in Waste Management Award at the UK Green Awards.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Use food waste insights to target the biggest opportunities for reduction through improved planning, portioning and kitchen practices.
  • Work with suppliers to reduce single-use packaging and improve recyclability across the value chain.
  • Strengthen collaboration with partners to improve data, drive behaviour change and support more circular solutions.

NATURE & BIODIVERSITY

Healthy ecosystems are essential to the ingredients we use and the communities we rely on. Supporting nature and biodiversity helps strengthen long-term resilience across our supply chain. In 2025, we continued to strengthen the resilience of our food supply chain by reducing food delivery miles by 33%, lowering transport emissions and increasing local sourcing. We also increased the use of local fish on our menus by 20% and worked with partners to develop a 100% regenerative burger roll, supporting farming practices that improve soil health and biodiversity.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Reduce beef burger portion sizes to lower emissions while maintaining quality and value.
  • Explore sourcing all chicken from UK suppliers to support welfare standards and reduce transport impacts.
  • Introduce lower-impact menu options, including reduced-meat alternatives.
  • Expand our wine range with more organic and biodiversity-focused choices that support healthier ecosystems.
